OFCOM CHARGING FOR VHF COM – A VIEW BY THE LAA
Stop Press: the response deadline has now been delayed to 22 April
You can find the Ofcom documents and details of how to respond here.
This misguided proposal by Ofcom would see an increase in charges borne mainly by the GA pilot in landing fees whilst some small airfields would lose VHF frequencies. If they succeed in their proposal to use law to force some airfields to keep a frequency they cannot afford (and so continue to pay Ofcom’s charges) they may well put those airfields out of business altogether.
The article in the March magazine summarised the details and you can find a copy here. The draft LAA response to Ofcom is here. It is set out in sections which deal in turn with the main aspects of the Ofcom proposition. Please do not copy sections of it for your own response as that will be ignored by Ofcom. Instead, pick issues that are relevant to you and write about them in your own words. However it would be helpful if you can focus on at least one of the themes we have covered to help reinforce our message.
Thanks go to the LAA members who contributed to this work.
We recommend you respond to Ofcom by email as the online response form can be lost after you have spent ages typing!
