In the period 1st of January to the end of July this year LAA Engineering has renewed the Permits to Fly for 1,542 LAA aircraft, which is up by 29 on this time last year. We've also processed Permits for 77 new LAA aircraft (quite a bit down from last year's 122, but expect a 'catch-up') and so far this year 58 new projects have been registered, which is 8 more than this time last year. So overall, business as usual, and members and inspectors continue industrious as ever.
As part of our ongoing remit to provide engineering learning opportunities to our team of 371 LAA inspectors we have organised a few courses for inspectors this year. In July, UK Jabiru agents Skycraft hosted just such a course for LAA inspectors at their well appointed facility near Spalding, where the day was spent learning about the technical strengths and merits of Jabiru aircraft and Jabiru engines (see photo). For August we are looking forward to a specially arranged 'engineering-themed' visit to the Airbase collection of historic aircraft at Coventry, and later to a course on inspection of Foxbat aircraft at Otherton, in Staffordshire.
