Advice from Atlas on filing Flight Plans (including going foreign)

Over the first weekend of the R112 Olympic Restricted Airspace a larger than expected number of incorrectly filed flight plans caused unacceptable delays for many users. Additional manpower, computer terminals and phone lines were quickly added and delays in flight plan approvals have fallen dramatically.

Atlas has also issued a Q&A which answers many of the issues that pilots are getting wrong on their flight plans and, importantly, it contains details of how to include details of an FIR boundary and ETA to that boundary for flight plans to another country. The Atlas system is different to the normal four letter ICAO FIR code, the use of which will result in a rejection of the flight plan.

The Q&A is available here.
