RV14

Van’s Aircraft has introduced its latest kit plane, the RV14 at AirVenture this week. The two seat side-by-side 14 is larger than its two seat siblings boasting a 46in wide cockpit at the shoulder (43 on the RV9), a more upright seating position, additional leg and headroom, and a 510lbs of useful load with a full 50 US gallon fuel load. This is an aeroplane for those with a fuller figure and height up to 6ft 4in! Power unit is the 210 hp Lycoming IO-390. The prototype RV14 is tricycle geared, but a taildragger is under development. The kit will come with a standard wiring loom and offer plug and play for a number of EFIS.

The wing uses the same aerofoil as the RV10 and the airframe is stressed to +6/-3 when flown at an aerobatic gross weight of 1900 lbs. Normal gross is 2050 lbs. Deliveries of wing kits are expected to start in Autumn 2012.
