The American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) International Committee F37 on Light Sport Aircraft will host the International Workshop on Electric Aircraft Standardisation on March 28 at the Hilton Garden Inn in Lakeland, Fla. The workshop is being held in conjunction with Committee F37’s standards development meetings at the 38th Annual SUN ‘n FUN International Fly-In and Expo.

The marketplace adoption of electric aircraft requires identification of the standards and related activities that can help overcome technical challenges and assist regulators in standardising the safety and performance issues that lead to certifications. This International Workshop is the first forum focused on discussion of the technical, standards and conformity assessment issues that will help facilitate routine certification in support of electric flight.

The objective of the workshop is to bring together electric aircraft builders, innovators and regulators to:

  • Review today’s certified electric aircraft in flight;
  • Investigate the emerging safety and performance issues; and
  • Coordinate among regulators and industry to address technical standardisation and research goals that will assist with safer aircraft and routine certifications.

Companies and organisations scheduled to participate in the forum include the Federal Aviation Administration, the European Aviation Safety Agency, Sonex Aircraft LLC, Lange Aviation, Pipistrel Aircraft, AeroVironment Inc., the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory, Boeing Global Technology, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration and more.

There is no fee to attend the workshop and pre-registration is required. Please note that space is limited, and registration is at a first come-first serve basis. All attendees, including presenters and ASTM members, are urged to register online for this event so that space requirements can be accommodated. Registration will close when capacity has been reached or by March 16.
