We receive many enquiries regarding the use of our UK NPPL licence when visiting France. As you’re probably aware, the NPPL is a national licence, without automatic rights overseas. Currently, one needs to contact the French authorities requesting permission to fly with the NPPL, with a varying response.

Recently, our Chairman Roger Hopkinson made a formal approach to the French authorities requesting an arrangement to allow UK pilots to fly to France with their NPPL (SSEA).

Roger is LAA Chairman, EFLEVA President and NPLG Chairman, so is well placed to make this request.

The proposed new EASA Light Pilot Licence is based upon the UK NPPL, so we’re hoping this approach will provide a helpful interim arrangement until the LPL becomes valid.

We’ll keep you posted on developments. In the meantime, please continue contacting the French authorities if you intend flying there under your NPPL (SSEA).
