Dear Applicant

Welcome to the Pilot Coaching Scheme.  I’m sure you will find the course enjoyable and beneficial and I would welcome any comments you may have on completion, either positive or negative, in order that we can continue to improve on what we feel is already a valuable contribution to flight safety and flying enjoyment.

I would like to explain briefly the insurance requirements since I’m sure you will appreciate the importance of protecting the LAA and its coaches in these increasingly litigious times.

We require proof of current combined liability cover of a minimum of £500,000 in the form of a note or fax from your insurers which confirms that they have been advised of your participation in the course and that any coach allocated to your training is included in the pilot warranty (see example overleaf).

This should not involve any extra charge from your insurers since all coaches are highly qualified pilots with instructional experience and a minimum of 1500 hours P1, and they have all undergone a standardisation course with our National Coach Mr Ray Newall.

We strongly recommend that hull insurance is in place and again evidence of this must be provided to the LAA office prior to commencement of the course.

We recognise however that some owners may be unable or unwilling due to cost to take out hull insurance and in these cases, it is essential that the attached indemnity is signed prior to undertaking a PCS course.

Even when hull insurance is in place, it is standard practice to include an excess (usually £500.00) and it must be understood that the LAA or its coaches will in no way be liable for re-imbursement of this amount in the unfortunate event of an accident occurring.

I must apologise for the somewhat heavy tone of all of this but our legal consultants advise us that it is all necessary in this day and age.

With best wishes for an enjoyable and successful course.
