Haynes Owners' Aviation Workshop Manual
s
Fascinating range of classic aircraft manuals, of interest to all enthusiasts.
DON'T FORGET - ALL PRICES INCLUDE P&P!!
De Havilland Tiger Moth (1931-1945).
The de Havilland Tiger Moth biplane is an iconic and instantly recognisable aircraft. It is also one of a handful of planes that attracts the widest possible recognition outside the specialist group. Of nearly 10,000 built, it is thought that more than 1,000 Tiger Moths still survive over six decades on, and over half remain airworthy. They are also affordable classic aircraft at GBP40-50,000 for an airworthy example. The authors take a close look at the construction of the Tiger Moth, acquiring and restoring an example, owning and flying one, and the engineer's view of keeping it all running and airworthy.
Stephen Slater is a motorsports writer and broadcaster, private pilot and former owner of a part-share in a Tiger Moth, and is currently restoring a Tiger Moth-based WW1 film replica aeroplane.
160 pages, hardback, illustrated in colour throughout, plus plans, diagrams etc.
Price: £17.00
Douglas DC-3 Dakota
The Douglas DC-3 Dakota revolutionised air transport in the 1930s and 1940s. Because of its lasting impact on the airline industry - and in particular the part it played in the Second World War - the 'Dak' is widely regarded as one of the most significant transport aircraft ever built. Using the RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight's ZA947 as its centrepiece, this "Haynes Manual" describes the Dakota's rugged anatomy and examines its operation from the viewpoints of its owners, aircrew and engineers.
The author is aircraft restoration expert Paul Blackah MBE of the RAF's Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. He is co-author of the Haynes Spitfire, Lancaster and Messerschmitt Bf109 Manuals. His wife Louise Blackah is also an aircraft enthusiast, and has worked with Paul on his other books.
Price: £18.00
Dam Busters, 1943 onwards (all marks and models)
The famous dams raid in May 1943 was made possible only by the fusion of cutting-edge technology with the raw courage of a hand-picked squadron of RAF airmen. The incredible bouncing bomb, used to devastating effect by 617 Squadron on the Ruhr dams, was the vanguard of a whole train of technical developments that made this and other precision raids possible. Using the "Haynes Manual" approach, Iain Murray describes the technology behind the bouncing bomb as well as the heavily modified Lancasters that were used to deliver the weapons.
Dr Iain Murray is a lecturer at the University of Dundee. He is the author of Bouncing Bomb Man (Haynes 2009) and was a consultant for the ITV drama series Foyle's War, which featured an episode about the bouncing bomb.
Price: £18.00
Supermarine Spitfire (1936 onwards).
The legendary Supermarine Spitfire receives the famous Haynes manual treatment with the full co-operation and authorisation of the Royal Air Force. Here is a unique insight into what it takes to own, restore and operate a Spitfire, as well as providing a wonderful insight into the engineering and construction of this remarkable aeroplane. Presented mainly in colour, this highly detailed and attractively designed manual is based around the restoration of the Spitfire Mk XVI at RAF Coningsby.
Dr Alfred Price served as an aircrew officer in the RAF until 1974. Since then he has been a full-time aviation historian and writer, and is acknowledged to be a leading authority on the Spitfire. Paul Blackah is currently Chief Technician at the RAF's Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, responsible for overseeing the engineering and maintenance work on a number of Spitfires. He is a passionate "warbird" enthusiast.
160 pages, hardback, illustrated in colour throughout, plus plans, diagrams etc.
Price: £19.00
Hawker Hurricane - 1935 onwards (all marks).
The BBMF operates two Hawker Hurricane Mk IICs - LF363 and PZ865 - which together form the centrepiece of this manual. Specially commissioned photography and interviews with Hurricane pilots and engineers give readers a unique view of BBMF operations at RAF Coningsby from where the Flight's Hurricanes are maintained and flown.
The illustrious Hurricane was one of Britain's finest and most successful fighter aircraft of the Second World War. It is arguably among the greatest single-seat combat aircraft of the era alongside its legendary contemporary the Supermarine Spitfire and its deadly adversary the Messerschmitt Bf109.
Over 14,000 examples of the versatile and deadly Hurricane were built. In fact it was one of the few high-performance frontline aircraft of its time to see service from the beginning to the end of the Second World War.
Aircraft restoration expert Paul Blackah MBE (best-known for his work with the Flight), and co-authors Malcolm V. Lowe (aviation historian), and freelance writer Louise Blackah (who is married to Paul) have produced the most comprehensive book yet about how the Hurricane is constructed, maintained and operated.
Fascinating insight into owning, restoring, flying and maintaining a Second World War fighter.
Features the RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight's Hurricane IIc aircraft - LF363 and PZ865.
Fully endorsed by the RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.

This title gives a full insight into owning, servicing and flying the USAAF's formidable Second World War bomber.

Messerschmitt Bf109 (1935 onwards).
The Luftwaffe's Messerschmitt Bf109 single-seat fighter was the main combat adversary of the RAF's Hurricanes and Spitfires in the Battle of Britain. This sister volume to the acclaimed "Spitfire Manual" covers the history of the Bf109, restoration to flight, the views of owners, pilots and engineers, and operating and servicing insights. Data boxes cover Bf109 facts and figures, plus interviews with Luftwaffe pilots and modern-day owner-pilots. Illustrated with a mix of specially commissioned colour and archive photographs, the "Bf109 Manual" also includes illustrations from Luftwaffe official wartime servicing manuals, and coverage of restoration projects in the UK and overseas.
Aircraft restoration expert Paul Blackah, best-known for his work with the RAF's Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, was closely involved in the restoration to flight of the Messerschmitt Bf109F 'Black 6'; he lives in Lincolnshire. Malcolm Lowe is an aviation historian who has written many books; he lives in Dorset.
