As the end-of-year holidays loom and we look forward to the office Christmas party (really, Francis in a party hat?) we can report that since the start of this year the LAA has renewed 2,150 Permits to Fly (compared to 2073 this time last year) and issued 191 new ones (compared to 192 last year).  New projects registered currently amount to 70 (109 last year).  LAA Engineering will be closed from 24th December 09 through to 4th January 10 but we promise to do our best not to let the office seasonal thrills and merriment distract us from our duties any more than we can possibly avoid.  Hon'issh.  Hic!

On a serious note, we have just completed our review of accidents to LAA aircraft for last year (2008) and the summary is published in Light Aviation magazine this month (December).  It shows a pleasing trend towards fewer accidents, when viewed as a percentage of the total LAA aircraft rising fleet size.  There were actually 68 reported-reportable accidents of varying degrees of seriousness during 2008 which is a number typical of recent times.
