Calendar

There’s a very wide range of aviation events to look forward to this year, from fly-ins at farm strips to major International Air Shows, something to suit all tastes. Further details of events, including email and website addresses, are often available on the Royal Aero Club site at www.royalaeroclub.org/events.htm. Our thanks to the RAeC and the compiler of their listings, Dave Wise, for the use of this information. Contact Dave at dave.wise@btinternet.com if you wish to include your event on the RAeC list.

It’s a good idea to check that an event is definitely on before setting out, and to check Notam for airspace and airfield restrictions or changes. At the very least telephone the AIS hot line on 0500 354802 or (from abroad) +44(0)20 8750 3939 for pre-recorded details of Restricted Areas (Temporary), Airspace Upgrades and Emergency Restrictions of Flying.

Airspace infringements have shown a marked improvement over the past couple of years thanks to the increased vigilance of GA pilots, well done one and all. One way to help prevent unintentional incursions is to use the Listening Squawk Codes in the vicinity of controlled airspace, with Mode C if you have it. The listening squawks are:

• 0010 Birmingham 118.050 MHz
• 0011 Solent/Bournemouth 120.225 MHz/119.475 MHz respectively

• 0012 Thames Radar/Gatwick 132.7 MHz/126.825 MHz respectively

• 0013 Luton/Stansted 129.550 MHz/120.625 MHz respectively

• 6170 Doncaster Approach 126.225 MHz

• 7366 Manchester 118.575 MHz
