Coffee Bar at Greenwich Maritime Museum
Our Strut had an away day by train recently. As winter was dragging on and flying chances were infrequent, our more mature (retired!) members decided a monthly trip to a museum or aviation related venue would be organised. The last of the summer wine tours!
Amazingly, when we checked in at Maidenhead Station, a lovely ticketing lady said that if 4 travelled together we could pay only £6.70 each for a Travelcard, entitling you to rail, underground, bus and a thrid off the riverbust cost for the whole day, from 0930 to midnight! What a start. Knowing that most London Museums are free, even the most cash strapped guy was happy! So, we duly arrived at Greenwich Maritime Museum (not much aviation there), a good coffee stimulated us to start the tour. After a light lunch we took the lad train to the Observatory and had a quick look around with an aeronautical eye of course! The river bus dropped us off in the city and before you could say "bucks fizz" we arrived at St. Pancras where certain members just had to measure the length of the Champagne bar. Later we set course for home, a great day out. Since then we've conquered the Science and Natural History Museum and lately the Imperial Way Museum!
In the Autumn perhaps HMS Belfast and St Pauls (ATA memorial).
Recommend it!
