Farnborough Air Sciences Trust Museum Visit
Over 30 RBS members made their way to Farnborough for a visit to the Farnborough Air Sciences Trust (FAST) museum. We were welcomed with coffee and a treated to a talk by David Wilson which was both highly informative and highly entertaining. David was the project leader for the Cody aircraft replica which was completed in time for the 100th anniversary of Cody Farnborough flight – the first heavier than air, manned and powered flight in Britain. A visit to the replica and museum followed with several members trying out the simulator to see what it would have been like to fly the original. The general opinion was that it was odd to fly but not as difficult as expected, although test pilots have previously declared the simulation too easy. A whip round of members, topped up with Strut funds, saw £100 being donated to FAST.
