East of Scotland and Strathtay
by Keith Boardman

Iain Gibson (East of Scotland Strut) and myself (Strathtay Strut) held our event as planned, in spite of poor visibility and the threat of thunderstorms late in the day. We flew 22 scouts, “provided” by the East of Scotland Strut, and 10 Air Cadets provided by the Strathtay Strut.
Eleven pilots offered multiple flights ensuring each participant had at least one trip, and several had two. Aircraft ranged from LAA types, through Pipers, and flexwing microlights, to a Pitts S2.
Those children who got two rides had one in a fixed wing and one in a flexwing, allowing them to compare and contrast the experience. The outcomes ranged from “I’m going to be an airline pilot”, to “I’m going to ask dad to buy a microlight!”
A highly successful day at Perth (Scone) Airfield with co-operation between two Struts and two children’s organisations.
