< Back Alert A-04-2025 - Jabiru Flywheel Bolts 12 Jun 2025 LAA Alert A-04-2025 - Jabiru Flywheel Bolts LAA Alert A-04-2025 has been published on the LAA website (and is also attached), highlighting the Installation Procedure, Torque Checks and Replacement Interval for Flywheel Attachment Bolts on aircraft equipped with Jabiru 2200, 3300 and 5100 engines, and withdrawal of LAA Alert AWA/20/15. With the advice in JSB-012 (Issue 9 onward) having been promulgated by Jabiru, LAA has withdrawn Alert AWA/20/15, which means that provided the advice in JSB-012 Issue 9 or subsequent is followed, along with regular bolt torque checks at every 100 hours and annual check as called for in the Engine Maintenance Manual, the recommended bolt life is as stated in the Engine Maintenance Manual (currently 500 hrs). For LAA aircraft having the flywheel bolts replaced, or torque checked, the work must be overseen and signed-for by a suitably approved LAA Inspector. Engine logbook entries must be made and certified with a PMR statement referencing JSB-012 in the logbook white pages, as well as an entry in the logbook pink pages (or equivalent method for tracking continued airworthiness compliance). < Back The online Permit Revalidation System is live for Gyroplanes! 22 Jul 2025 We are pleased to announce that the online Permit to Fly revalidation system went live today for gyroplanes, both home-built and factory-built! Step-by-Step Video Guide, FAQs and Crib Sheet The step-by-step guide to the new online Permit Revalidation system in the form of an ‘ Online Permit Revalidation Explained ’ video can be found below. This was written for a fixed-wing example, but the majority of questions are the same for gyroplanes and the process for gyroplanes has the same three stages as for any fixed-wing aircraft. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rOGRQ89dOA8 We have also compiled a list of ‘ Frequently Asked Questions ’ for you, which are found below. The ' Crib Sheet ' for Inspectors referenced in the video is formally called the ' Airworthiness Review Reference Guide ' and is available HERE . There is a version of the crib sheet for homebuilt gyroplanes, entitled ARR-REF (HOMEBUILT GYROPLANE) and a version for factory-built gyroplanes, entitled ARR-REF (FB GYROPLANE). The Check Flight Schedules for both homebuilt and factory-built gyroplanes have now been combined into a single check flight schedule for gyroplanes, entitled CFS-1 (GYRO). This is available HERE . Previous check flight forms for homebuilt and factory-built gyroplanes are now obsolete. The Permit Flight Release Certificate (PFRC) is now a separate document, where it was previously contained within the application form for revalidating a Permit to Fly. It can be found HERE . Key Considerations There are a few key considerations to ensure a Permit to Fly revalidation under the new system goes smoothly: Please make sure you know your username and password for the LAA website. If you have forgotten your login details, please contact the LAA Office. All aircraft using the new system for the first time will require a check flight no older than 3 months at the time of submission of the revalidation application. This is in order to provide a baseline for the online system. The 3-year check flight cycle will then apply subsequently to most aircraft types. Some aircraft will still require a check flight at every revalidation, these are: Aircraft cleared for Night/IFR. Aircraft which have flown less than 12 hours since the previous revalidation inspection. Aircraft Owners will not have to submit a CFS-1 (GYRO) Check Flight Schedule when applying through the new system. However, a CFS-1 (GYRO) will need to be completed for each check flight and stored with the aircraft’s documentation, so that it is available when needed. We will no longer be accepting old-style (paper or scanned) Airworthiness Reviews for homebuilt or factory-built gyroplanes conducted on or after 22 nd July 2025. Need Help? Finish 16:00 < Back About the Course About the Course This course, held at Popham Airfield is hosted by Chris Thompson, an experienced AGCS person, CAA examiner, and LAA member. It will provide both the theoretical and practical training required to sit the examinations for the CAA Radio Operator's Certificate of Competence (ROCC) qualification required by operators of ground-based radio equipment at flying sites and events where an air-to-ground radio service is provided. The course is in two parts. Day One is made up of the core training and radio procedures practice on simulated ground-to-air communications. Day Two will consist of the CAA written and practical examinations which will allow candidates to directly apply for the CAA ROCC Certificate. Why two days? This course spends a good deal of time giving background to your practical usage of the ROCC Certificate. The Practical exam is highly developed to give a representation of what it is like to operate an Air/Ground service when you commence any future employment. All delegates SHOULD have some basic knowledge of GA airfield circuit procedures and a level 6 English language proficiency or you may find this course difficult. AGCS RADIO OPERATOR'S CERTIFICATE OF COMPETANCE - IMPORTANT NOTES: Note 1 - This Course is to enable a person to operate a Ground Radio Station running AGCS (Air-Ground-Communication-Service) and not be confused with an aircraft FRTOL (the Flight Radio Telephony Operator Licence, which is required to operate the radio in an aircraft). Note 2 - All ROCC Certificates currently in existence are valid until 31st December 2028. The CAA CAP2192 (July 2021) stating an end date of 31st December 2025 is no longer valid and has been superseded. Note 3 - All new ROCC issued will be valid until 31st December 2028. The revalidation process is under review by the CAA and will be notified here when available. Note 4 - The only pre-requisites that the CAA state for an ROCC “Air Ground” Course are that the applicant should be over the age of 18 and pass the exams. The CAA are no longer using the “paper” application process and are now only using the CAA online Portal. You must have a CAA Portal Username and Verified ID to submit your ROCC application. This can be done by visiting the CAA Portal (search Google for https://portal.caa.co.uk .) website and supplying them with the required documentation. The instructions for this are on the CAA website and not part of the LAA course process. Note 5 -You will be asked to bring your verified Portal Username to the course. Without this, any exam results will not be able to be processed by your Examiner and the CAA. Note 6 - The course also assumes that you speak English to level 6 (CEFR/C2) and that you will have a basic understanding of airfield and light aircraft circuit procedures, hence a "pilot" background is best. Note 7 - This AGCS ROCC "Air/Ground" course should not be confused with other ROCC types, OCS, PARA,CDO, FDD, and OPC as these are not part of the LAA mandate. Camping Camping passes, which cover the duration of your stay, are available upon arrival, at a cost of £65 . There is a discounted price of £55 if bought in advance from the LAA shop and the cut off date is Wednesday 26th August to allow us to get your camping permit posted to you on time. Camping permits bought in advance will be posted to you in July . If you fly in and wish to camp under the wing, this is free. Camping facilities, providing basic amenities, including hot showers will be available on site. There is ample ground for caravans and mobile homes. The campsite will be open from midday Thursday 28th August and close on Monday morning 1st September. Please note entry to the Rally Exhibition Site is charged separately. Prices are for the duration of your stay. On site catering and bar will be available in the Exhibition area during event opening hours and evening food, bar and entertainment will be provided by Leicestershire Aero Club in the evenings.
