< Back More new LAA Inspectors - Bryn Holt & Daniel Couzens 16 Jan 2024 It is time to introduce you to two new LAA Inspectors - Bryn Holt and Daniel Couzens, who both attended an LAA Inspector Assessment Day in December, with our Chief Inspector, Lucy. Bryn is the Hangar Supervisor for Shenley Engineering at Headcorn Aerodrome. He has 20 years experience carrying out maintenance on a variety of fixed wing metal, composite and wooden airframes, supporting naturally aspirated and turbocharged Lycoming and Continental Engines, Gipsy Major and Renault 4P03 Engines. Daniel is an Aircraft Engineer based in Lincolnshire, as well as being a qualified CAA welder. The first aircraft he built was an Xair microlight. < Back Alert A-08-2025 - Gen 4 Jabiru 3300 Engine Crankshafts 25 Jul 2025 LAA Alert A-08-2025 - Gen 4 Jabiru 3300 Engine Crankshafts On 11.4.25, Jabiru Aircraft Pty Ltd issued a new Service Bulletin, JSB 046, which applies to specific Jabiru 3300 engines and requires the replacement of the crankshafts on engines within certain serial number ranges, which they state were supplied between April 2017 and June 2024. Jabiru regards the Bulletin as mandatory. The Bulletin advises that Jabiru has identified that, as a result of an issue with heat treatment, crankshafts supplied with the affected engines are in some cases susceptible to failure. Jabiru have specified that the crankshaft must be replaced by a crankshaft of the later, improved design. Affected crankshafts must be replaced prior to 15th December 2026, or 150 hours total time in service (TTIS), whichever occurs later. A-08-2024 can be found HERE and is also shown below. Find a Coach All Coaches are CAA qualified Instructors and CAA 'R' Examiners. They are all highly experienced and generally able to do licence revalidations, differences training, refresher courses and any specialised training. This would be dependent on their own experience of any aircraft type on which training was requested, so please check with the Coach nearest to your location as to their availability to carry out your request. The map below can be increased in size and moved, as required. The icons represent the postal location of the Coach. < Back LAA Alert A-14-2025 - Eurofox Fuel Line Disconnected In-Flight 11 Dec 2025 LAA Alert A-14-2025 - Eurofox Fuel Line Disconnected In-Flight A non-LAA, Factory-Built Eurofox with a Rotax 915, fuel-injected engine experienced an in-flight engine shut down due to the high pressure (4.5 Bar) fuel hose connecting the high-pressure fuel pump unit to the master fuel valve becoming detached from the master fuel valve during flight. This resulted in the engine stopping and a serious fuel leak in the cockpit. It is believed that a combination of the fitting’s shallow barbs, and a small fuel leak of high-pressure fuel through the scratched/cut hose lubricated the fitting’s brass surface and allowed the hose to slide off the fitting. Owners and Inspectors should pay close attention to fuel hose condition and attachment security during inspections. Any signs of movement, wear, or mismatch between hose and fitting must be addressed before the aircraft flies again. Please refer to the attached Alert here for full details and recommended checks. The Light Aircraft Association was represented during this project by Barr y Plumb, who was a member of the project steering committee. All aspects of t he use of Mogas containing biofuel additives were considered in the research programme and the final report from the project is now publicly available here . Flying into Leicester If you intend to fly into the LAA Rally at Leicester, you will need to book an arrival slot. Should you wish to fly-in on more than one day a separate slot will be required for each landing. Arrival and Departure Procedures The Pilot Notes for the LAA Rally at Leicester Fri 29 Aug-Sun 31 August are available now. The slot booking system is now live. Slot bookings can be booked and purchased via the Eventbrite website. Please ensur e that you are familiar with the procedures before flight. Please also note the RAT in force for the Victory airshow at Cosby approximately 7.5m SW of Leicester airfield and plan your approach to and departure from the Rally accordingly. For any pilot booked-in for the Thursday normal aerodrome procedures apply. Leicester will have copy of your slot booking. One landing fee of £10.00 (+ booking fee) covers a single landing and aircraft parking of up to three days and camping by your aircraft. Pilots and accompanying passengers will also need to purchase individual entry tickets to gain access to the Rally and exhibition site.

Our enjoyment of flying, and the ability to share that with others, carries with it a responsibility to maintain good standards of flying and airmanship. The Pilot Coaching Scheme (PCS) provides coaches to assist with specific courses and any general training need. COACHES The LAA has the Pilot Coaching Scheme - all Coaches are current CAA and Part 21-FCL certified Class Rating Instructors, Flight Instructors, or Flight Examiners.
