< Back MTD-07-2026 Issue 4 – Van’s RV Horizontal Stabiliser Attachment Bolts 12 Oct 2026 Mandatory Technical Directive MTD-07-2026 Issue 4 and Van’s Aircraft Service Bulletin SB 00134 Revision 2.2 MTD-07-2026 Issue 4 provides additional guidance on assessing deviations from the designed shape and position of the notches in the HS-714 flange, including clarification of when the position of a bolt hole relative to a notch requires additional repetitive inspections. It also corrects the socket size specified for identifying AN3 bolts from 7/16-inch to 3/8-inch AF. What action is required? Aircraft previously inspected under Issue 1 or 2: Check the bolt sizes and HS-714 notches in accordance with Issue 4 and complete the relevant entries in Appendix A. Aircraft already inspected and found satisfactory under Issue 3: No further action is required. All other applicable aircraft: Carry out the full inspection and measurements specified in SB 00134 Revision 2.2 and complete Appendix A. < Back *DEADLINE EXTENDED!* Design the LAA 2026 Rally Poster Competition 2 Feb 2026 LAA “Design the LAA 2026 Rally Poster” Competition: Entry requirements The Light Aircraft Association (LAA) invites members, their friends and family who are 16+ to take part in our Design a 2026 Rally Poster competition celebrating the 80th Anniversary of the LAA. We’re looking for exciting, imaginative poster designs that capture the spirit of the LAA, celebrate homebuilt and vintage aircraft, and highlight the future of general aviation. Whether you’re a seasoned designer or a first time creator, we’d love to see your vision! Children’s competition Alongside this, we are also running a children’s design a poster competition, to inspire our young aviators to get creative! Parental consent required for under 18s. Shortlisted entries in this category will be displayed at the Rally. Age categories 3 – 6 7 – 11 12 – 15 Theme “Celebrating 80 years of the LAA” - building, flying and Innovation. Entrants may interpret the theme however they wish. Ideas could include: LAA homebuilding heritage The community spirit of the LAA Spirit of flight Future aviators and innovators Safety, engineering, sustainability, or adventure within GA Iconic imagery associated with the Rally A celebratory anniversary feel for the LAA 80 th ! Creativity is encouraged! Who Can Enter This is a competition for ages from 16+ . Anyone under 18 will require parental permission. The children’s competition is in three age groups. Poster Requirements Format: Poster size: A4 (portrait or landscape) Accepted media: hand-drawn, painted, digital artwork, mixed media All entries must be submitted as: A high-resolution JPG or PNG, or A PDF suitable for printing Design Requirements The poster must include the title: LAA Rally 2026 and mention the 80th Anniversary. LAA logo (download link will be provided). Date and location of the Rally – 4 th , 5 th and 6 th September 2026 at Leicester Airport The UK’s biggest International Fly in. No copyrighted images or AI-generated stock art unless you own the rights. The poster can include aircraft, venue (i.e. from above with parked planes). Themes from any era (Design themes from any era). It also includes updated advice about the Low-hour Propeller Inspection Protocol (LPIP) maintenance option for certain certified constant speed propellers, and aligns LAA policy on propeller maintenance with the arrangements for certified aircraft under Part-ML regulations, where owners of aeroplanes up to 2,730 kg MTOM can develop an Aircraft Maintenance Programme (AMP) based on a Minimum Inspection Programme (MIP). < Back More new LAA Inspectors - Patryk Nelkowski & Pete Nicholson 2 Feb 2024 It is time to introduce you to two more new LAA Inspectors - Patryk Nelkowski and Pete Nicholson, who both attended an LAA Inspector Assessment Day in January, with our Chief Inspector, Lucy. Patryk is a UK CAA licensed aircraft engineer (B1.1/B1.2/B3) based in the south west of England. Currently in the Greater London area on Pilatus, Cirrus and Tecnam aircraft as part of his day job. He has a wide-ranging aircraft maintenance background, with experience on commercial aircraft, such as the A220, Dash 8, and Embraers right through to Cessnas, Pipers, RVs and a variety of other aircraft including warbirds. In his spare time, he is involved in the maintenance and restoration of classic cars and historic military vehicles and their engines. After studying an engineering degree, Pete's professional career covered a wide range of electronic and communications systems, during which flying and maintaining both powered aircraft and gliders was a passionate hobby. After being lucky enough to take early retirement, his hobby has become a significant part of his activities and he particularly enjoys using his background and experience to work on Avionic systems. You may notice a few changes which are aimed to make the system more user friendly. We apologies for the inconvenience this is causing and as soon as we are back on line, we will send an email out to members to advise them the site is live. 7 Oct - 15:35 Unfortunately it’s taking a lot longer than expected to update our systems and we are still in maintenance mode. Hopefully we should be ready to go live later on this afternoon. 4 Oct We will be upgrading our software which runs our membership and engineering databases on Monday 7th October. This will mean that our system will be put into maintenance mode at about 7.30 am and should come online again around midday. Develop airworthiness guidance and technical documentation, including Type Acceptance Data Sheets (TADS), Mandatory Technical Directives (MTDs) etc. Assess Permit to Fly revalidation applications requiring engineering evaluation. Identify, assess and escalate significant technical, safety, quality and regulatory issues to the Head of Continuing Airworthiness & Inspection. Conduct Aircraft Continuing Airworthiness Monitoring (ACAM) activities and technical audits. Deputise for the Head of Continuing Airworthiness & Inspection when required. Essential Requirements We are looking for a candidate who can demonstrate: Strong technical knowledge of aircraft systems, maintenance practices and airworthiness principles. Relevant experience in light aviation engineering, light aircraft maintenance, continuing airworthiness, aircraft certification or a related discipline. A broad understanding of UK aviation regulations and continuing airworthiness requirements. Essential Skills Excellent analytical, investigative and problem-solving abilities. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear technical reports, guidance material and educational content. Stuart spent considerable time as an aircraft panel beater fitter and has a love for all things aviation. Stuart is a multiple aircraft builder, painter and maintainer. He is open to requests for information, advice and permit inspections. Stuart is currently the Manager at a sheet metal specialists workshop.
